7月６，７日、第21回目となる「アフリカの子どもの日in熊本」に参加してきました。日本中からアフリカの留学生が70名ぐらい集まり、会場の半数近くを熊本の高校生が占めていました。

The 21st ” African Day in Kumamoto “was held on July 5th.,6th. and 7th.　 About 70 African exchange students from all over Japan participated in the event.  Surprisingly, a half of the participants were high school students.

1日目と２日目はいくつかの分科会に分かれて勉強しましたが、３日目は分科会の発表がありました。

On the first and the second day, we had group study meetings according to the theme.  On the last day,each group exchanged what they had discussed.

これは「持続可能な開発」という分科会の発表。この分科会だけ1日目（5日）に水俣まで出かけて、水俣の勉強をしてきました。これから開発に取り組むアフリカの国々にとって、非常に考えさせられるツアーだったようです

The theme of this group was “sustainable developement.”  They went to Minamata City and they studied Minamata problems. This tour was  very important for African people, too, because they are going to work on dvelopement in their countries.

この分科会は「ルワンダに学ぶ」。19年前に大虐殺があり、大変な国だと思っていたら、自分たちでよい国を作りたいと思う熱意で、今は素晴らしい国に立ち直っています。そのことを、ルワンダの大使が自ら語られました。写真の左から2人目、腕を組んでいる人がルワンダ大使です。

The theme of this group was “Learning from Rwanda.”  The presenter was the ambassador of Rwanda.  Rwanda experienced genocide nineteen years ago and we felt very sorry for them.  But now they have recovered and build a new country of their own. Rwanda is called “a miracle of Africa.”

懐かしい顔が見えます。彼女はマリールイズさん。教育の大切さ、教育の喜びについて語りました。彼女は福島に住みながら母国ルワンダに学校を作り、多くの卒業生を送り出しています。

She talked about the importance of education . She now lives in Fukushima and  build a school in Rwanda.  She gave education to children in Rwanda ane many children have graduated so far.

私は「アラブの春がアフリカに与えたもの」という分科会に参加しました。毎日新聞の一面でとりあげられるエジプトの内紛、アフリカの若者たちは熱く語ってくれました。イスラムのことは難しくてよくわからない、なんて思っていたら、ほとんどのアフリカの青年が悔しそうに語ったことが、「日本のメディアの報道が非常に偏っている。イスラムが悪であるかのような報道が多い。しかし、イスラムの教えの中心は「平和」なのです。このことを皆さんにぜひともわかってほしい。」彼らの切実な訴えで した。

I took part in the group “the impact from Arab Spring on African countries.”  It is a current and the hottest problem. it was such a complicated problem and I couldn’t understand it very well.  I was impressed that most African youths in that group said Japanese media was biased.  According to them, the center of  Muslim teaching is peace. They really want Japanese people to understand it.

 

 

小学生や中学生にもちゃんと参加できる分科会を 作ってあるのが素晴らしい。「アフリカを知る」という分科会で文化の交流が行われました。

There was also prepared a group for primary school children and junior high school students. The theme of the group was “Let’s know Afria.”  They learned each other’s culture and enjoyed exchanging them.

ランチはアフリカの料理や日本の料理を地元の方が作ってくださいました。500円。人数が多かったのと慌ただしかったのとで、何を食べたかほとんど覚えていません。

At lunch time, we enjoyed African and Japanese food, which volunteers in Kumamoto cooked.

次に九州大学の留学生が寸劇をしてくれました。ダイアモンドを横取りしようとする人、お金を独り占めして逃げようとする人、アフリカの問題を浮き彫りにして、みんなでこんなことやめよう、みんなで力を合わせて、希望を求めて行こうよ！というストーリーでした。

Exchange students in Kyushu University played a skit.  They presented a serious African problems but in the end, they promissed to cooperate with each other in order to build their peaceful countries.

この写真で話している内容は、とても深刻な話でした。ある女子高校生が「留学生の皆さんは大学で勉強が終わって卒業したら、国に帰るのですか、それとも日本に残るのですか？」という質問をしたのです。大人なら今更聞けない、実は聞いてみたい、大切な疑問でした。この質問に対して、卒業した時点で国の受け入れ態勢にもいろいろ条件があるし、自分の勉強したことが生かされないときは日本に残る選択もある。という意見があり、それに対して、ルワンダの大使は、「皆さんはぜひとも国に帰って国のために貢献してほしい。ぜひともそうすべきだ。」と言われました。するとまた、卒業してから日本で仕事をしながら社会勉強もしてそれから国に帰って貢献したい、といえば、また、そんな社会勉強も含めて国にやるべきだ、それも含めて国に貢献するべきだという、実に生々しい議論がなされました。ディスカッションというのは結論は出なくてもいいのです。いろんな人の意見を聞くことによって、自分の考えが変わったり補強されればいいのです。こんな生身の討論を聞くことのできる熊本の高校生が心you 底うらやましいと思いました。目を開けばそこには世界が広がっている。

One Japanese high school student asked a question; After you graduate from a Japanese university ,what would you do?  Will you go back to your country, or will ou stay in Japan?”  Each African participant had their own opinions. Some might not be able to get a job which they want  in their country.   But the ambassador of  Rwanda said they should go back home and contribute  to their country. The discussion was so active. We could not come to the same conclusion but, I’m sure Kumamoto high school students learned a lot from the discussion.  .The world is open just in front of them.

最後の写真です。この映像に映っている人は、19年前ルワンダで孤児になった人です。ルワンダでは国つくりを始めた時、あまりにも多い孤児たちを、家庭に受け入れて育てようと呼びかけたそうです。「私を助けてくれる人がいるとは信じられませんでした。」これはルワンダ大使のレポートの一コマでした。大使の結論は、「よい国を作るのは、ビションを持ったgood leadershipだ。」ということでした。アフリカだけでなくどの国にも当てはまりますね。

I’d like you to see this last picture.  This video was presented by the ambassador of Rwanda. He showed many young people who were orphans nineteen years ago.  After the genocide nineteen years ago, the government asked people to be foster parents of the orphans.  Young men and women on the screen were raised by the foster arents.They are now studying or workinga for their country.  The ambassador said as a conclusion, “the most important thing to build a good country is a good leadership with a good vision.”

That can also be said to Japan.

 

先月のシンポジウムに引き続き、熊本のパワーに圧倒された2日間でした。宮崎県ユニセフ協会は、9月に宮交シティーで、ミニミニミニミニアフリカ展をします。

I was, again, moved by the power of Kumamoto UNICEF .

Miyazaki UNICEF is going to have a mini mini African panel display in Miyako City in September.
