3月18日（火）　宮崎市立赤江東中学校で、ユニセフ学習会の出前授業をしました。

On March 18th.(Tue.), We visited Akae Higashi Junior High School and gave a Unicef study class to the first year students.

赤江東中1年生の道徳の授業に参加しました。このクラスの生徒たちは、昨年12月はバングラディシュ、今年3月はカンボジアの高校生との交流があり、日本の外に目が広がっているところです。今日は、ネパールの女の子の話をＤＶＤで学びました。彼女は12歳で働かなくてはならない状況、でも学校に行きたい。5歳年下の弟は2年生ですが、彼女はやっと1年生のクラスに入ることができました。自分で働いて教科書、ノートを買いましたが、それを入れるカバンも袋も持っていません。もっと勉強して将来は先生になりたいと思っています。

They had exchanged with two boys from Bangladesh last December and another girl from Cambodia this March, so they are all interested in foreigh countries.  Today they watched the movie about a girl in Nepal, who wants to study but has to work for living.  She is twelve now and in the first year　at school, but her younger brother is in the second year.  She wants to study harder and her dream is to become a teacher in the future.

そんなＤＶＤを見た後で、私たちの暮らしと違っていることをいくつか挙げて、なぜそうなのか理由を考えました。

After watching the movie, we listed some differences between their lives and our lives in Japan.

そのあとで、ネパールの女の子たちが水を運んでいた水瓶と同じものを抱えて運んでみました。

They tried to carry a water jug used in Nepal.  When it is filled with water it weighs 15kg.  Carrying water is a girls’ job in Nepal and other developing countries.

　　水を入れると15kgにもなります。水汲みは子ども特に女の子の仕事です。遠いところでは2～3ｋｍの距離を一日に何度も運びます。

　ネパール語の「水・毒・薬」、みなさん読めますか？

These are words in Nepal, which are water, poison and medicine respectively.

次に、学ぶことの大切さを、ワークショップ「文字を知らないということ」で体験しました。文字を知らないと、おなかが痛くなったとき、薬の瓶と農薬の瓶を間違ってしまい、死んでしまうこともあります。　　文字を知らないと、悪い金貸しに騙されて、家や土地を取られてしまうこともあるそうです。

We learned what disadvantage would happen if we didn’t know the language.

　　　　　

最後は「ユニセフ手帳」を広げて、世界地図をみんなで眺めました。日本とニューヨーク（ユニセフの本部があります）を確認してから、白い国と青く塗ってある国を見て、何が違うのかを話しました。

Lastly we looked at the world map on a UNICEF leaflet and learned which countries UNICEF  are supporting.

今日は世界のことに目を向ける学習でしたが、次回（来年度）は、もっとユニセフのことについてお伝えしたいと思っています。

Next time, we are planning to study about what UNICEF is doing in the world.
